The Farmers
I am Ray, and with my wife, Donna, we raise pork and crops on our farm in Ashville. Our four daughters are grown, but they all helped out on the farm while they were growing up. The girls were also involved in 4-H and learned about responsibility by showing pigs as part of their 4-H projects.
The pigs come to our farm when they have been weaned from their mothers. We keep them inside a nursery which is monitored at the perfect temperature for the young pigs. When the pigs weigh 50 pounds, they are moved to a bigger barn until they reach full growth which is about 250 pounds. Donna and I work together to track everything that happens on our farm because keeping accurate, reliable records is an important part of our farm operation.
